Sizing Images
Make sure your image dimensions, file type and file size work for the web.
Optimize Image Dimensions
You should crop, resize and optimize images for the web before uploading it to the CMS. There are different dimension requirements, depending on where you are placing your image. Refer to the RED documentation site or the CMS itself for these dimensions. You can use Adobe Photoshop to edit images or use one of the following online softwares:
Balancing File Size and Quality
There is a fine balance between quality and file size. The larger your file size, the longer the page will take to load. Ideally, you want to keep all your images less than 1MB. Reducing the image dimensions is a good start. However, that does not necessarily reduce the file size.
It is recommended to use JPG's for the website. PNG, GIF and other formats are usually big in file size.
Using Photoshop
If you are editing your images in Adobe Photoshop, you can save images at medium or low quality without affecting the look of the image too much.
Free alternatives
There is free software that can help you with optimizing images. Utilize one of these resources to optimize images if you do not have adobe photoshop.
