UI COM Name Usage
College, university
Capitalize when part of a formal name. Lowercase when standing alone in subsequent references. You may also use an acronym on subsequent references. For example:
The College of Medicine was founded more than 145 years ago. The college is still one of the nation’s leading educators of physicians.
The University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford won an award because employees of the college nominated it for the Spirit of Medicine Award. UICOMR employs 200-plus people.
When writing the names of multiple colleges or universities, lowercase the common noun. For example:
The Graduate and Honors colleges are located on the east side of campus.
Do not hyphenate universitywide or campuswide.
