Master of Science in Medical Biotechnology Program

This program concentrates on biological processes, technologies and skill sets used in the research and development of pharmaceutical products, vaccines and devices for the medical industry. The degree these students earn is a Master of Science, or an MS, (not an MBT degree, or an MSc degree or an MS-MBT). Formally, you would say Chris Smith earned a Master of Science in medical biotechnology from the University of Illinois College of Medicine.

MBT

This is the informal abbreviation for the Master of Science in Medical Biotechnology Program, e.g., The MBT students are having a party today. It is not the degree that is conferred. Rural Pharmacy Education (RPHARM) Program

Based on the success of the RMED Program, RPHARM began in 2010 with a program that recruits students from rural Illinois with the goal of having them return as practicing pharmacists. University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy students at the Rockford campus enrolled in the concentration in rural pharmacy services receive education and mentoring focused on the health care needs of rural communities while they earn their Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree. Many of their rural rotations are in conjunction with RMED students.

Rural Nursing Education (RNURSING) Program

New in 2017, RNURSING allows advanced practice nursing students from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Nursing at the Rockford campus to take electives focused on meeting the health care needs of rural communities. These RNURSING students seeking the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree join RMED and RPHARM students for collaborative projects. Increasing the number of primary care advanced practice nurses can improve access to health care in rural communities with a shortage of health professionals and decrease the health disparities for these underserved populations.

Formerly, the UI Health L.P. Johnson Family Health Center. This health center (not a clinic, as that is for one purpose and this has many) is a Federally Qualified Health Center that is a teaching facility that provides each patient the benefit of a team of health care professionals, extended personal attention and care for all ages and phases of life. The UICOMR Family Medicine Residency Program offices are housed here at 1221 State Street in Rockford, adjacent to UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital where the resident physicians and attending physicians can attend to their patients if hospitalization is needed.

UIC Health Sciences Campus-Rockford

It is how we refer to the campus at 1601 Parkview Ave., which houses programs of the University of Illinois Chicago College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy and College of Nursing, as well as other entities that rent space. Defies the AP rule to spell out the acronym on the first reference, (so it is not University of Illinois Chicago Health Sciences Campus-Rockford). It does not have a space before and after the en dash or hyphen. The UIC Health Sciences Campus-Rockford is home to the College of Medicine, College of Nursing and College of Pharmacy and their respective programs. The UIC Health Sciences Campus-Rockford has five buildings that are connected – the North Building, South Building, East Building, Maintenance Building and the A Building – plus a Medical Student Activity Center. The main entrance and reception area are located on the east side at the newest A Building. Despite the signage, it is NOT the University of Illinois-Rockford.

UIC College of Pharmacy at Rockford

In direct response to the continuing shortage of pharmacists in Illinois, the College of Pharmacy created the Rockford regional program, with the first class that began in fall of 2010.

UW Health

The health system is UW Health. The hospital in Rockford is UW Health SwedishAmerican. Clinics do not use the SwedishAmerican name in them, so the title would be UW Health Creekside Medical Center, for example. If you need to differentiate from UW Health Madison and UW Health Northern Illinois, you may say UW Health Northern Illinois. But the health system is UW Health.

Virtual Anatomy Lab

This area, which contains the Anatomage Table, is used to supplement the learning of students.

Winnebago County Justice System Medical Services

Do not use. Use University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford Correctional Health Care Services. The University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford provides 24/7 health care services via a contract with Winnebago County at the Winnebago County Justice System Juvenile Detention Center and Winnebago County Jail.
